Helping children and families break free from poverty

World Vision involvement in Papua New Guinea began in 1979. Current efforts focus on helping children reach their full potential by breaking the cycle of poverty, and include initiatives like the following:

  • Clean water for drinking and irrigation
  • Leadership and literacy skills training to help local families take ownership of the development efforts in their own communities
  • Supplies for health outposts and mobile clinics
  • Infrastructure assistance to church and government health institutions
  • Tuition assistance for sponsored children
  • Educational materials for schools
  • Nutrition and hygiene training for parents
  • Agricultural training for farmers
  • Improvement of roads around project areas
